People Matter

“People Matter” is the name of a Charleston workforce/tech company in downtown Charleston. But “People Matter” would be a great name for a church like Palmetto, because when it comes to ministry, people matter.

In this week’s issue of The Presbyterian Outlook, there was a survey that asked “Where do American adults meet friends?” Work was the number one answer with 42%, but 29% meet friends in the neighborhood, and 20% meet friends at church. As a “neighborhood church,” we have this great opportunity to help connect people to each other and to God by gearing our ministry in such a way that we use everyone’s talents and gifts. Let us continually welcome new folks into our congregation, not just as “members,” but as friends!

We do a lot of ministry here. Last week was Camp in a Van Bible School; the youth met for Bible study, for dinner and fellowship Tuesday night and traveled to Moncks Corner Sunday after worship for an afternoon of Paint Ball; the women’s book club met, we had two worship services; the Nominating Committee met; the men of the church came Friday to clean-up and set-up the sanctuary after Bible school—and what all these ministries/activities have in common is they affirmed that people matter! The first step is just to show up.

Thank you to each of you for your participation in our ministry. I am grateful for your friendship and for the many gifts and talents you share to enhance our ministry.

If indeed “people matter,” then let us remember and respond to the charge Jesus made to each of us in Matthew 28:19-20: “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”

Invite a friend to church or make a friend at church this Sunday.
