You are my refuge and my shield; I have put my hope in your word. Psalm 119:114
Our theme for this year at PPC is “In these uncertain times . . .” By definition, life is uncertain. We don’t know what tomorrow will bring, much less next week or even next year. I have a friend who tells me, “At my age, I don’t even buy green bananas!” Some people enjoy living life with a “go with the flow” attitude. Others are more comfortable with having firm plans and following a schedule. But no matter which style of living suits you, surprises, good and bad, will occur.
So how do we handle these surprises? The “good” surprises are certainly easier to handle, no matter how regimented a life one might prefer. It’s those “oh no!” type of unplanned events that can throw everyone for a loop, even the “que sera, sera” folks.
I find that keeping my Bible at my side helps me handle life’s uncertainties. Scripture such as Psalm 119:114 reminds me that God is in control, and I am not. He has a plan for the world, and I am part of that plan, so I can put my trust in Him knowing that He is working his plan through me.
Dear God, creator and controller of the world, help me to surrender my need to control my life to You, so that Your plan can be fulfilled. In the name of Your Son, Jesus Christ, Amen.
