Today is Presidents Day, so in America, today is a holiday. I did a word search and discovered, not surprisingly, that “holiday” comes from the Old English word Haligdaeg . . . holy day. It means any special day of rest or relaxation.
What if we were intentional about making each holiday a ”holy day” by pausing to reflect on our many blessings, by giving God thanks for a day of rest or a break from our normal routine.
In yesterday’s sermon, reflecting on Jesus’ sermon on the plain from Luke, I also quoted Luke 12:48: “to whom much is given, much is required.” I believe that also includes our time as well as our material blessings. Our retired folks often tell me EVERY day for them is a holiday, so I guess they could reflect on all the good things God has done for them EVERY day! Of course, those of us who are working can do likewise.
So ENJOY this Presidents Day Holiday (holy day).
Have a blessed week,
