This Sunday we will ordain and install elders for the class of 2021, as well as two youth elders who will serve a one-year term. These folks have studied and prayed and committed to serving our congregation for the next three years. Ordination is a serious matter, and we are blessed to have these committed leaders. But every member of the church and all our friends of the church have many opportunities for service here at Palmetto. Last Tuesday we had our first Team Palmetto meeting of 2019, and I am excited by the enthusiasm and commitment of some of our newer families.

I like to say that in the Reformed tradition we begin with God so our main focus is worship. It is interesting that Psalm 100 makes no distinction between worship and service, the NIV says

“WORSHIP the lord with gladness, come before him with joyful songs,” while the King James says “SERVE the lord with gladness, come before his presence with singing.”

Certainly there are many ways we can express our worship by serving, and we have many openings for service right now. We still need some co-chairs for our 10 ministry teams, and with all our children and folks of all ages, we need LOTS of help with Christian education.

So please pray for discernment and allow the spirit to lead you to a special area of service this year as we continue to worship and SERVE the Lord with gladness.

I am glad God has called me to serve here at Palmetto.

Blessings in 2019,
