Originally from Austin, MN, conductor Thomas Gerber has become heavily involved in the music scene here in Charleston. He is the current Director of Music at Bishop England High School where he helped lead the program to their Carnegie Hall debut in Spring 2019. He is also the Music Director for the Cultural Arts Center Charleston where he prepares and conducts a wide variety of musicals and shows. He also serves as the Associate Conductor for the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus where he has the privilege of preparing music for Britten’s St. Nicholas Cantata, Handel’s Messiah, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Bach’s St. John Passion. In the Spring of 2019, he assumed the role of Interim Music Director at the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist. He is a current member of the Taylor Music Festival Choir and has had a variety of experiences both as a choral and operatic singer, most recently singing with VAE in Cincinnati, OH under the direction of Craig Hella Johnson. He also is a past member and section leader of the internationally acclaimed Luther College Nordic Choir. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Vocal and Instrumental Music Education from Luther College in Decorah, IA and also holds a Master of Music degree in Conducting from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. He is very excited for the opportunity to serve the Palmetto Presbyterian community and looks forward to helping grow the music ministry!
