Each year during Advent special groups or families in the church light the Advent Candles of Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love. Yesterday, representatives of the Amazing Grays lit the candle of Hope.
During this week, I invite you to reflect on the things, people and circumstances that give you hope. Reflect also on ways you might offer hope to someone else.
Not surprisingly, hope is a theme that runs throughout scripture and is also a popular topic for many of the hymns in our hymnal. Though not a Christmas carol, but certainly a well-known hymn based on Psalm 90, could well be sung the first Sunday of Advent: “Our God, our help in ages past, our HOPE for years to come . . .” Every year we celebrate Advent because we know God has indeed been our help in the past, therefore we believe he is our only hope for years to come.
I hope you and your family will make a special effort to join us here at Palmetto for the many worship, mission, and fellowship opportunities we have planned during this Advent season. This Sunday is SECOND SUNDAY, so you are in for a treat as our children will be in worship and we have a very special service planned.
May you experience the hope, peace joy and love of this Advent Season,
