Pastor Herbie Miller

Senior Pastor

Rev. Dr. Herbie Miller is a pastor, preacher, and leader who seeks to help people encounter the love of Jesus and grow as his disciples. Throughout his ministry – whether preaching on Sunday mornings, offering care in hospital rooms, leading congregations, or building friendships in the wider community – Herbie has sought to root himself deeply in the life of the church and the neighborhoods God calls him to serve. Herbie brings twenty years of pastoral and teaching experience, along with a strong commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ and a heart invested in community life. His academic background in theology and church history has shaped his ministry by giving him deeper resources to preach with clarity, teach the Christian tradition with wisdom, and offer guidance and grace across life’s journey. Herbie draws on both his pastoral and academic experience to live out his calling in ministry, which is simply to make more and better disciples of Jesus Christ.

In addition to his pastoral and teaching ministry within the church, Herbie is deeply invested in building bridges, fostering dialogue, and forming connections beyond its walls. He is especially grateful for two professional opportunities that have allowed him to do just that.

First, Herbie has written a forthcoming book, The World Is Large Enough for Us All (Bloomsbury Press), which tells the story of the historic 1837 debate between Alexander Campbell and Bishop John Purcell over Protestant and Catholic relations in America. The project deepened Herbie’s conviction that respectful conversation across different belief systems is not just possible, but necessary for a vibrant church and society.

Second, Herbie currently serves as a Teaching Fellow with The National Jewish Center for Learning and Leadership, where he is helping to create a Christian-Jewish adult education curriculum called Coming Home to Covenant. This work has expanded his heart for interfaith understanding and strengthened his belief that Christian maturity involves both deep roots and open hands.

Herbie is a pastor who shepherds the people of God by preaching the good news, fostering spiritual formation, equipping leaders, and walking alongside others in every season of life. At the heart of Herbie’s ministry is his belief that the best gift the church can offer the world is the gospel of Jesus Christ. Herbie loves serving in congregational ministry because he has the joy of witnessing how God works through this local expression of the Body of Christ. Through the work of the Holy Spirit, the church is a place where grace is shared, friendships are formed, lives are changed, and disciples are sent out in Christ’s name.

Herbie met his wife Aimee in college and they will celebrate 25 years of marriage this summer. They are the parents to three daughters, Sophie, Sidney, and Savannah.
